paris day 1…a new view and chez prune

view from rue magenta apartment

it's about 5pm toronto time which means i've been awake for 34 hours. but it totally doesn't feel like it. a friend recommended "no jetlag" (an herbal preventative medicine) and i guess it really works. it's almost midnight in paris and i feel fine.

this time i'm staying in the 10th arrondisment in an apartment on the top floor of a gorgeous super old building. is there any other kind in paris? look at this view from the wall-to-wall windows in the living area. this is the 10th arrondisment town hall! how gorgeous. beyond that are the rooftops of paris and in the distance, the eiffel tower. we can see it light up at night too!

ok back to food. brunch at cafe charbon which was meh so i won't even get into it. but we rebounded tonight with a casual and delicious dinner at chez prune on the canal st. martin. pretty young 30-ish crowd who was still coming in after 10pm. apparently not worried about work tomorrow.

assiettes at chez prune

the menu tonight was shared plates–assiettes. we ordered the "assiettes des trois couleurs": taramosalata, tapenade and hummus, and the assiettes du fromage with brie du mode, chevre frais in oil, cantal cheese and blue d'argent, with chutney, walnuts and pear slices. these iphone pictures taken in the dark do not do the food justice. the wine, a cotes du tarn was only ok. great nose but lacking body. not my ideal.

getting very tired now that i've stopped running around. oh lord… MUST. SLEEP. NOW. PLEASE.
